The property on which Hazelbrae now stands, originally formed part of a larger parcel of land granted to Richard Dry in the early 1800's. Some 30,000 acres was owned by the family best remembered for the milestone his son (by the same name) achieved when becoming Tasmania's first state-born Premier in 1866.

Hazelbrae's homestead is surrounded by exquisite gardens and almost 5000 Hazelnut trees, a credit to the passion, attention and innovation shown by the recent previous owners, the French family.

Planting of the Hazelnut Grove began in 2005, and since then it has become one of the largest groves in Australia.

The grove currently produces in excess of 10 tonnes of in-shell product each year with the expectation of reaching 50 tonnes per annum by 2023, as it reaches full maturity.

Purchased by Micheal & Christie in 2014, Hazelbrae's transformation from family farm to agri-tourism attraction will continue in an effort to educate and inform more people about the benefits of local hazelnut products and share the beauty of the once private gardens with the eager public.
